Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is everywhere in modern society and in a wide variety of applications, including products we use every day like pipes, siding, doors and windows. It is produced through the polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) with the help of an organic peroxide initiator.

We offer a wide range of organic peroxide initiators for the production of PVC.

Our organic peroxides are used as single initiator or in a combination of initiators in order to optimize the polymerization rate. The most important criteria selecting the right initiator are peroxide reactivity, initiator safety and physical form.

Peroxide reactivity

The first and maybe most important criterion for initiator selection is reactivity, which can be determined by the initiator half-life and is the time required to reduce the original initiator content at a given temperature by 50%.

Initiator safety

Organic peroxides are unstable chemical compounds, decomposing at relatively low temperatures. They can, however, be handled and stored safely if proper precautions are followed. Although a number of organic peroxides can be safely stored at ambient temperatures, most require some form of temperature control. Physical form

Organic peroxides are available in different formulations for PVC production. Water based organic peroxide suspensions and emulsions are much safer than the usual solid, liquid or solvent based peroxides. Organic peroxide suspensions and emulsions can be dosed automatically and applied in closed reactor technology. Additionally, water based organic peroxide formulations can be transported in bulk or intermediate bulk containers (IBCs).
