At ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure Methyl Chloride is a colorless inflammable gas heavier than air and with a very weak sweetish odor. Methyl Chloride forms a solid, snow-like hydrate with water of composition CH₃Cl.6H₂O, which may preferably develop if liquefied Methyl Chloride containing water is vaporized by expansion cooling. Methyl Chloride is mainly used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
